
Ormond was the daughter Josephine Lab technician, and John Ormond (a stockbroker) who lived in Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the 2nd child of five children to her parents. Her early performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. She later attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year of art school , she was moved to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1988. Ormond made her first appearance on British television's 1989 series Traffik. It focused on illegal heroin trade between the far East and the streets of Europe. Ormond played the addict child of the lead character, a Home Office minister working to fight heroin imports. The role was a hit and received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
